Tell them where you work and what you do and say something like 'I wanted to connect with someone who does the same job as I do. I am sure we can learn a lot from each other'.

Saying 'hi! I called to see who I was competing with' will also do the trick. Just make sure that today you contact people who do your job for your competitors
